Daschle Democrats to Stop Obstructing
Dear Americans,
The news is out about Miguel Estrada and what Senate Democrats are doing to him. Estrada came to America as a teenager, unable to even speak English. But he worked hard, went to college, and then graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law School, where he edited the Harvard Law Review.
He went on to clerk for Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy and was the Assistant to the Solicitor General of the United States from 1992-1997. During that time he argued before the Supreme Court 15 times, and he won ten of those cases.
When President Bush nominated him to the federal bench, even the liberal American Bar Association gave him a high rating, and said he would be a very good judge.
Miguel Estrada has earned the respect of his peers. His nomination should be the end to a great personal story of courage and perseverance, and what can happen when you work hard and play by the rules. It's not. Unfortunately, I'm writing you for a far darker reason.

As they have with many other Bush nominees, Senate Democrats are holding up Estrada's nomination. They have been doing so for the last 600 days. This is outrageous, but it gets worse. Now that Estrada's nomination has actually made it to the floor for a vote, Tom Daschle and the Democrats are filibustering to kill Estrada's nomination. Tom Daschle said yesterday, "We will continue to debate this issue." "Debate" is a clever word for "block". Senator Harry Reid, (a Democrat from Nevada) was more honest when he said, "Miguel Estrada will never be a federal judge. We have talked to our members, and it doesn't matter if there is one cloture vote or 50 cloture votes, we will all be together on that....We're going to see this one through."
It is time for MillionsofAmericans to act. We have to tell Tom Daschle right now that he and the Senate Democrats are out of line, and that they do not reflect the will of the American people.

The Democrats want to stop Estrada simply because he is a conservative. Democrat Senators have another goal. They are warning President Bush: "Don't send conservatives up here for confirmation to the Supreme Court, or any other court".
We can win this battle for Miguel Estrada. And we can help President Bush get judges on the federal bench who respect the constitution.
