Tax collections
The Comptroller’s primary duty is to collect taxes effectively and efficiently. They range from sales and use taxes to oil and natural gas production taxes. We have offices in 32 cities throughout 5 states where taxpayers can conduct business with the agency.
Revenue estimating
The Comptroller reports the state’s financial condition to the Legislature at the end of each fiscal year and estimates revenue for the coming year. The agency determines whether there will be enough money available to meet spending proposed by the Legislature.

The Comptroller’s office is charged with auditing the performance of Texas schools. The Comptroller is committed to helping districts drive more of every education dollar directly into the classroom, with the students and teachers where it belongs.
Economic development
The agency provides economic development assistance to local governments and businesses. Help includes information on grants, data on local economies, sources of training and purchasing opportunities.
Local government
The Comptroller works hand-in-hand with local governments and offers workshops on financial management topics, local sales taxes, court costs, fees and fines.
