Lt. Governor, Missouri

Joe Maxwell

As Missouri’s Lieutenant Governor, the citizens of my state are my customers. My staff and I work hard to provide blue-ribbon service in our everyday duties from promoting community service, to improving the quality of life for Missouri’s seniors. We provide the state ombudsman’s service. This means that we are here to help citizens find answers to any questions or concerns they may have by directing them to the appropriate state agency. We take this responsibility very seriously and strive to help people find answers to their questions as quickly as possible.

By law, my office is the official voice for Missouri’s senior citizens. My office has been named the official Elderly Advocate for the state and we work to promote the ideas, needs and concerns of our states elderly residents. I have made it my mission and priority to ensure that the voice of our seniors is heard.

I serve on several commissions that are working groups designed to help meet the needs of our senior population. I serve as chairman of the Missouri SenioRx Commission, which was created to provide affordable prescription drugs to low-income seniors. I am a member of the Special Health, Psychological and Social Needs of Minority Older Individuals Commission, we work to solve health disparities in minority communities. Additionally, I serve as chairperson of the Missouri Veterans Benefits Awareness Task Force, which makes sure that Missouri’s veterans are connected with the benefits that they have already earned and deserve. I also serve as co-chairperson of the Personal Independence Commission established to develop the best practices for seniors and those living with disabilities.

I’m honored to be a part of numerous boards and commissions that deal with issues from Missouri tourism to early childhood care and education. Some of these commissions I serve on by law as part of my duties as lieutenant governor, and others I have chosen to serve on to help improve the lives of Missouri citizens. I often attend meetings where we plan and discuss activities for the group in order to accomplish our goals and better serve the citizens of Missouri.

As lieutenant governor I am President of the Missouri Senate. I preside over the Senate while it is in session from early January to mid-May of each year. While I do not have a regular vote in Senate matters, as the President of the Senate, it is my responsibility to cast a deciding vote in the case of a tie.

I take my job as a public servant very seriously and continue to strive each day to make Missouri the best place to live for all of its citizens.

Sincerely,

Joe Maxwell,
Lt. Governor, Missouri
