I am the Treasurer of Curry County, P.O. Box 746, Gold Beach, OR 97444. 

Summary of my duties: Supervise general operation of Treasurer & Tax Departments; make all decisions for both offices; serve and inform Tax Office customers; cross train employees to cover in absences of vacation and sick leave.

Attend management meetings semi-monthly, safety committee meetings monthly, commissioners workshops, Treasurer conferences 2 times per year, Tax Collector conferences 2 times per year, Tax Office meets with Assessor and staff first week in September for preparation of coming tax season. October-Nov. 30 open mail, post tax payments and balance money.

Perform accounting duties; verify amount of money deposited by county departments and taxxing districts; receipt and credit proper fund and budget item.

Maintain computer spreadsheets; reconcile receipt entry in the accounting system.

Respond to inquiries from public, county departments and taxing districts regarding functions of Treasurer & Tax Departments. Record request for money and follow procedures for depositing into checking accounts of taxing districts.

Confer with data processing department relating to accounting and tax functions when needed.

Provide balances, verifications and reconciliation reports as required. Assure completeness and accuracy of records and summaries of financial transactions and investments in compliance with GASB 34 (Government Accounting Standards Board)

Maintain control records for all transactions affecting fund balances in all county funds. 

Once a month give County Commissioners the Treasurer's report and fund balances for all funds.

Maintain prudent investment of funds.

Basic knowledge the position requires is:
Considerable knowledge of State laws and Government Accounting Standards. The knowledge of the practices and terminology associated with bookkeeping and accounting as well as a working knowledge of the principles of accounting is required. Skill to manipulate data management systems to enter, update, edit, display, and search financial information recorded on data processing equipment. The ability to operate calculators, personal computers, and other office equipment and perform data entry on various computer programs is necessary for this position.

The Treasurer has to make decisions daily on which account to receipt payments for districts and departments of the county. Decisions in banking as to whether transfers need to be made between banks to cover accounts payable and payroll expenses; which banks to withdraw funds for districts are made on a daily basis. The Treasurer has to be aware of market trending and investment opportunities to invest not only county money, but also money held for taxing districts.

We are controlled in our functions by ORS laws for the Treasurer & Tax Collector.
I have worked for Curry County for 33 years. I worked in the Assessor's Office for 28 years and have been Treasurer for 4 1/2 years.
