A joke to be remembered

As Americans soberly prepare for war with Iraq, we must once again thank Senate minority leader, Tom Daschle for yet one more chuckle. With his cry for relevancy, we hear him yell, “Look at me, I am important, really I am.” With his words and action, laughter is certainly triggered. How could one not be amused by the “little Napoleon” thing going on?

Seriously, so what if Daschle’s recent statement concerning how very saddened he is by President Bush’s diplomacy smacks of his extreme hypocrisy, political partisanship and intentional falsehood. The sad joke is how his ill-timed, very sad statement, has united his liberal troops in obstruction, opportunism and blunder. As Americans understand that we are on the brink of war and soldiers are being placed in harm’s way, how silly of him to not comprehend that his cheap words appear to be, not so funny.

Senator Daschle may or may not meet his Waterloo as Americans all across the nation call for him to resign from his Senate minority status due to his ridiculous, very sad words. But, as our courageous American soldiers return victoriously, it will not be Daschle’s words that will be remembered. Rather our nation’s leader, the commander and chief’s words, “The United Nations Security Council has not lived up to its responsibilities, so we will rise to ours,” that will find an honorable place in history. And as Saddam’s deception is uncovered it will be the UN Security Council, “Countries of the Unwilling” and Democrats that followed Daschle that will stand on the sideline not able to claim victory.

Now how sad will Daschle be as he considers who the joke will be on in the end?
