Bullies
Found On Senate Playground

Throughout
time instruction has been
given to our youth
regarding bullies, giving
options to consider.
Today, American citizens
are being bullied by
subtle and not so subtle
actions coming from the
Senate floor. Time has
come to consider options
needed to tackle the
unjust tactics,
threatening our freedom.
Recently
Present Bush sent a number
of judicial names for
consideration to the
Senate, of which Judge
Charles Pickering’s name
was resubmitted.
Indignation from Democrats
was predictable and
evident. With fury have
come filibuster threats.
My argument deals not with
validity of the
filibuster, but rather who
it is directed at.
Judge
Pickering has been
singled-out due to
accusations of racial
insensitivity. In dogmatic
manner, with broad brush
they point to a ruling in
a 1994
Mississippi
cross burning case.
With
calls for a filibuster, my
question is, why? Are they
fearful that the public
will see his record;
realizing politicking has
had more to do with
discrimination than the
Judge’s record? What if
the public were to learn
that the so called
“extremist” was
nothing of the kind?
America
’s judicial example
provides that one is
innocent until proven
guilty. Should not
Democrats have to prove
their accusations are
indeed correct? Is a
man’s cherished
reputation not worthy of
us erring on the side of
consideration and decency?
Distortion
and harassment must not be
permitted simply because
one does not fit
Democrat’s judicial,
philosophical mold. Facts
are available regarding
Judge Pickering and we
must insist that they are
given in totality,
suppressing them is not an
option.
Thankfully,
courage and leadership
have been shown by
President Bush in
resubmitting Judge
Pickering’s nomination.
To stop the “political
bullies” it will take
similar action by all
fair-minded citizens,
demanding elected
legislators govern as the
people wish, allowing this
man a right to have “his
day in court.”
