What is it with all those labeled “doubting Thomas,” not being able to see smoke as they peer down the barrel? One might see their blindness through the glasses of politics, greed, naivety or perhaps ignorance.
Most hope politics is not playing a part; however, is it possible the elected would consider putting their party over our nation’s security? Is naivety a motivation, thinking the world can somehow be peaceful if only the United States walks away allowing Saddam to have his way? Could it be greed? What country benefits if their blindness regarding Saddam’s evils continue? Lastly, ignorance, no facts just emotion, some decide that Saddam should be allowed to continue hiding weapons of mass destruction; expressing the world has no business trying to disarm this man.
Which is it? What possible motivation is it that they are not able to see facts based on solid information before them? Colin Powel’s powerful case demonstrated that Saddam has continued with deception. He states that Saddam will,” Stop at nothing until something stops him.” Powell’s argument laid at those who signed on to Resolution 1441 addresses the importance of their not failing in duty and responsibility.
Now what will those of motivation do with facts that Colin Powel laid before the UN? Will the politicians continue their spin in hopes of gaining their power back? Will the naive continue to believe that peace will come if the United States withdraws their convictions? Will those desiring something from Saddam look the other way? And will the ignorant just turn a blind eye. Some may.
Would one not be able to consider the varying motivations to avoid disarming Saddam as forms of aiding and abetting our enemy? Most certainly, many may. And finally, what happens if the “doubting Thomas,” get their way?
