Ode to a Southern Girl

"Southern girls don't sweat, they glisten"................ Anonymous

How could a man have been so blessed as to find this wonderful Southern lady for a wife? She is worth far more than mere riches. He would never have words to describe her value. He is able to trust her completely with his heart. She knows his deepest fears and highest dreams, and he can trust her not laugh at either. She encourages him to overcome fear and pursue his dreams.

She is so careful with all that her husband acquires and possesses that he will never have to resort to stealing, gambling or cheating to prosper. She will always be good for him and will never bring sorrow into his life. She keeps her eye out for goods she can use to make possessions he could never afford to purchase. This is a special blessing for everyone in the family. She gathers foodstuffs and prepares the meals they like from all over the world. Her "homemade" goods and meals are better than those from anywhere in the world.

She is not slumberous. She is out of bed early to feed the family and provides for her friends when they have need. She makes wise decisions about family purchases. She seeks diligently to bring about a profit for the family with every endeavor. She is a strong woman, determined not to abandon her expectations and fall by the wayside. She will not give up just because the path is difficult. She gathers her strength and concentration and pursues her considered goals.

She knows that she is a good woman -- that she has a special beauty and is an intimate blessing to her husband. She takes care of herself that she might always be an enchantment to him, even after he is an old man. She works late into the night to accomplish the good she does. She is resourceful. She masters whatever tools are necessary to accomplish her responsibilities. She is generous and kind to those less fortunate. She teaches what she has learned to others. She rolls up her sleeves and puts her hands as well as her mind to the task of hard, physical work in helping others. She is a blessing to all who come into contact with her.

When cold or rainy weather comes, she has no worry, for her family is prepared with whatever clothing they need for the occasion or time of year. She is not indecent or sensual in her appearance. She is always dignified in the way she presents herself in public and is dressed so that her husband will invariably be proud to have the world know that she is his wife. He is known wherever he goes as a man who is well taken care of -- He is not outfitted in rags. He can walk before Presidents and kings with no reason to be ashamed of his situation in life. Even though he may not be wealthy, she attends to him that his clothing is in proper repair, clean, neat and the best they can afford. She influences others to respect her man. She is his strength and honor. Her day of rejoicing is coming and will be with a great reward for who she has been.

As her husband talks with her he is blessed. She is one of the wisest people he knows. Her considerations are important to him. She is the very measure of compassion and mercy as it should be. She takes good care of her family and is not slothful in her duties in private or in public. It is not a task for the children nor her husband to praise her in public. There are many good women all over the world who have performed many admirable works, but this Southern lady goes ahead of them all. Flattering people to find favor is deceitful, and cosmetic beauty will fade, but this GOD fearing lady will one day be stood up by GOD and praised before the world. May her diligence be a blessing to her now. Let her good works be published and bring her honor in this life. This is the supreme standard for raising our daughters, do you know where it came from?

As the line in the old song by "The Beach Boys" says, "I wish they all could be Southern Girls."
