Wake up City of Milton

The environmental phobia running amuck in Escambia County has found its way to Milton in Santa Rosa County. The city plan to reroute treated wastewater to Whiting Field is just another waste of taxes ($250,000) provided by the Florida Defense Infrastructure Grant Program.

According to our flawless dynamic press, another application for $2.5 million dollars (more tax money) has been submitted to the Northwest Florida Water management District (more tax dollars) to complete a reuse line to irrigate the golf course at Whiting field.

For both cost and environmental reasons, an alternative idea is suggested. It is recommended that Milton continue to add its 1.3 MGD of treated "almost drinkable water" to the Blackwater River. A pipeline would be constructed from the river to Whiting Field for irrigation use.

This idea has considerable merit. Blackwater River water nutrients would keep the fairways in a healthy state. The overall quality of river water would be improved. There would be no change in water material balance, and the overall cost would probably be much lower.

Finally, I suspect that during dry spells, irrigating the golf course has a much higher priority than using the water to irrigate nearby farm crops.

If there is a downside to this idea, I would be delighted to know.
