Beyond Free Speech - Inciting anti-Americanism in The USA Could Litigation Make Hollywood Pay Cost Of Future Terrorist Acts?

It seems a handful of famous movie stars have recently taken freedom of speech to a whole new level. While our political leaders are trying to make the world safer for law abiding citizens, these folks take pleasure in running about the globe sowing descention. My take is that there is a vast difference between just being against a military action and actually keeping troops from doing the job they are sent somewhere to do. Seems there could also be a huge responsibility resting on the shoulders of these film personalities for any terrorist activities which they might inspire.

Could these actors be inciting other citizens to perform terrorist acts? So far probably not. Could it happen in the future? Of course. Could there be a few Timothy McVieghs out there just waiting to be encouraged? Where does freedom to say anything end and treasonous behavior begin? Will some impressionable and naive citizens be swayed by charismatic film industry activists to do great harm to their fellow countrymen?

While any foreign subject who does harm in The United States will probably have already been impressed to do so by other forces, it could be said that any American subject that does such harm and has been coaxed to do so by the rich and famous in Hollywood, could have been prompted to do so after they were properly enraged by some articulate thespian. So might it not only be fair to hold these individuals responsible for any such dastardly deeds and to allow those harmed to seek punitive damages from these people. I see a possible class action suit arising from any future such disaster.

So far, these individuals have only suffered through the loss of some of their groupies who see things from a different political perspective. That is just the reality of a sometimes fickle fan base. But surely, any thoughts of possible legal action adds a new dynamic when considering possible ramifications of such activism. After all, this is a war on terrorism. What price a united front backing our chosen leaders. With all of the killing and violence coming out of hollywood these days it could just be getting harder for young minds to distinguish reality from fantasy.

Let's hope litigation is never used to silence those who choose to speak up for that in which they believe ... but showing in court that some dirty deed was done after watching a particular actor or group of actors - not acting - but blasting something his own country and it's leaders have done, and through this dialog from an orator of significant skill, was then led to perpetrate some dreadful crime on members of his own community should give us all cause for concern. A lawyer's dream case - not! Could we be watching some case like this being tried on TV in the near future. I'm hoping this is one production we never get to see.
