Here they come! All of those carefully selected op-editorials to bash the recall. Same story - different day. How did I know this would happen? More to the point - why am I the only person in California who noticed this payoff to the press?

It was called "Flex-Your Power" and it cost you and I eight hundred million dollars ... that's right - as in 800 million bucks. It was the advertising blitz that came too late. It was the ad campaign to get Californians to save electricity. Only problem is ... it was instituted after the first blackouts - and AFTER residents of the state had already gotten the message and cut back drastically on their own.

As far as I can tell the money was spent by the governor with no oversight, no vote, and nobody else's approval. Gray Davis just wrote a check to the advertising outlets all over the state for 4/5 of a billion dollars. Did anyone notice how right after that there were tons of reporters and camera crews showing up to report on the governor doing - whatever?

So now the chips are down. I can just picture the governor on the phone to the metro daily publishers ... "remember those 10 million dollar checks I sent you last year?" ... "glad to be of service" ... oh and by the way ... so-and-so will be sending you a great piece he wrote blasting the recall - RUN IT!

Never mind that the amount they say the special election will cost of 25 million dollars is just about what Gray Davis' mistakes will be costing us for the next 3 years - PER DAY! I say let's get the bum out! ... and not a moment too soon.

By the way, this will be sent to all of the newspapers in California. Do I expect that they will print it? There are some who will. To date, none of them have bothered to put a reporter on it, or to really get to the bottom of this important dereliction of duty by our chief executive. So feel free to forward or send parts of it as a letter to the editor.

We must continue to hold our elected officials ... and our free press ... accountable for the things they say and do.
