Ten Words and Phrases we'd Like to see Go Away

Read the whole series:

In the fine tradition of the Ten Words and Phrases, here are ten socio-lingual nightmares that have worn out there welcome - assuming they ever had one.

Equality - The American version of equality - that before the law - was bastardized by pagan/heretic French politicians in the late 1700's into equality of outcomes. One need not walk far down the street to notice that human beings are anything but equal in a host of categories. But, I suppose, politics is not about reality. Now, here in the US, we are fast trading the American version for the French, but such is the nature of our 'living' constitution...

Living Constitution - Kill it! Kill it now! It wasn't supposed to breathe...it was supposed to mean something. Today it means nothing. What was the point of drafting the thing if no one takes it seriously? A benevolent dictatorship would be preferable - or maybe that's what we're being greased up for?

Family Values - A hollow phrase, which is only allowed if one defers stating whose family and which values. A preferable alternative would be 'Biblical Values.' At least we'd be making a definite statement.

Social Contract - I didn't sign no contract, social or otherwise. The term social contract was invented by someone that found out how nifty it was to live off the largesse of other people, and wanted a righteous-sounding justification for it. Interesting how I can be shot and killed by the state for breaking a contract I never knowingly entered. We all stay shackled to it, since the only way out is by use of like force.

Enable - Politicians always want to enable someone with my money. Here's a novel concept: let me enable myself, and let everyone else do the same. No matter what the program, all they ever do with all that enabling is buy more smokes and beer anyway.

Fair Share - Involves mainly people who didn't work for it, the ability to buy more smokes and beer. See enable.

____-person - It's mailman, congressman and fireman, thank you. Women entering traditionally male employment is a waning fad. No need to change the whole language over it. Even if it wasn't, a woman's place it still in the home, not out taking away work from men who have families to support - their traditional and God-given role. [I'll save you time - click here to send me a nasty letter about my bad attitude.]

Mentor/Role Model - People spend an awful lot of energy promoting 'mentoring' and being a 'role model' to children, yet spend absolutely no time promoting parenthood. Or - okay, you want a role model? How about Jesus? How about Paul? Why is it always some drug-addled, womanizing pimp of a sports star? That, or some liberal, beard-and-ponytail, sensitive guy that cries and reads poetry. We shouldn't be surprised that kids are growing up without men in the house when society absolved them of their responsibility with welfare, Roe v. Wade, and free condoms [not to mention equality]

Belief System - There are no belief 'systems:' there's God's plan for humanity, and then there's our stupid ideas. You think all roads lead to heaven? Better bring some extra food [might as well bring along the smokes and beer too.]

Democratic - If I hear one more politician - president or otherwise - talk about our 'democratic society' I'm gonna puke. The dumbest thing the drafters of the Constitution did was fail to put in term limits for every elected office. I want to see politicians so hamstrung they can't even call a vote on whether to have lunch or not. When I think of reform, I think of removing the furnaces and air conditioners from Capitol Hill. They should meet for about two weeks and then go home for the rest of the year and leave us the heck alone.

Well, this list already had to be trimmed down to make it ten - which invites a part 2 someday. Send me your suggestions, and we'll continue this later. To those of you who drink beer and smoke, I have nothing against them - you'll have to send me a letter to ask why I included that as a humor device.
