TRULY NEED YOUR INPUT AND FEED BACK
I've taken on a task that will have great benefits to the Northwest Florida area as well as benefits to youth engaged in 4HI'M RECYCLING AGAIN
Many of you may not know that I began my "Love affair" with Fort Walton Beach as an announcer with Radio Station WFTW in April of 1954. Three months later
I became Manager of what was then the Playground Chamber of Commerce. At that time, the Chamber included all the area from Gulf Breeze east to Phillips Inlet and all of South Okaloosa County including Niceville and Valparaiso.
I have returned to WFTW as co-host of the Wake-Up Call each morning Monday through Friday from 6 - 9. I'll be the co-hosting with Ken Walsh. I've been doing the program for about three weeks now and really enjoy it. We've had some great guests and have others scheduled in the days to come. So, help me to ease back into radio by tuning in and by giving us a call to make a statement or ask a question.
I have used the term "recycled" since there are other examples of how I have returned to something.
I was elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 1968, served 10 years and then took 17 years out to help raise a family. I ran again in 1994 and served an additional 8 years where I was designated as the Dean of the Florida House my last two years. So, I recycled with the legislature.
Another recycling job. In 1969 I left the Chamber Management position to go to Washingt6on, D.C. as Legislative Assistant to Congressman Bob Sikes. After three years in that position I returned to the Chamber Management for a little over a year before taking a position with a development corporation out of Alabama. In 1979, I again returned to the Chamber (as manager of both the Chamber and the Okaloosa Economic Development Council) until 1985.
Now let's see where all this leads for the future. Please contact me at my email address (jerry@jerrymelvin.com) with any suggestions you have for the radio program either as topics or guests. You can also reach me on my cell phone at 850-376-9098.
WATER SAFETY A BIG ISSUE
Because of all the drownings and near-downings along the coast in the past few months, I'm coordinating a meeting of interested individuals from Destin /Fort Walton Beach and Escambia County Wednesday to try to develop some action for the entire coast. Jack Moran of Pensacola has considerable research and experience in the field as Joy Dunlap of Destin. We'll see what comes of the meeting and report back to you. Any suggestions?
CAMP TIMPOOSHEE PROJECT ACTIVE
I still working to put together the advisory committee for Camp Timpoochee and have it just about complete. What we'll be doing is work for improvements to the camp for use by the 4-H clubs and other groups and organizations. If you're interested in being a part, please contact me at my email or give me a call at 850-376-9098.
SUGGESTED READING
I'm adding another book to my list of suggesting reading. Samuel T. Francis has written "America Extinguished: Mass Immigration and the Disintegration of American Culture" and I think it's well worth your efforts to get a copy and read it. "The author is a potent adversary of those who would uproot the U.S. form its people and history to transform it into some kind of global multiculturalist society" according to John Vinson, or, Immigration Watch.
I still say that "America's 230 Years War - Who is Winning" by Bilant Vazsonyi is the best book I have ever read about our great country. I still have a few copies I can sell for the reduced price of $15.00 in the event you cannot locate it elsewhere. Just email me if you need a copy.
QUOTE OF THE WEEK
"The total costs of mass immigration - in wages, welfare, costs, fiscal costs, crime, and the exact impact on the economy - are another story, but what is clear is that the new masses are not assimilating, that they and their political and cultural leaders increasingly reject the very concepts of assimilat5ion as Americans have understood it, and that changing the meaning of assimilation to paste a rosier face on the truth am\bout immigration will not for long disguise the truth." (Samuel T. Francis)
QUESTION OF THE WEEK
How should the immigration issue be faced here in Florida?
