I am sending out this special FALWELL CONFIDENTIAL e-mail to update you to report on (1) this weekend’s awe-inspiring Easter services at Thomas Road Baptist Church, (2) our Lady Flames basketball team’s historic win in the NCAA Tournament, (3) a special Law School Announcement and (4) an extraordinary Internet Evangelism conference that Liberty University is hosting.
Please read on to learn about all of these rousing happenings.
TWO IDENTICAL EASTER ‘SONRISE’ SERVICES AT TRBC, MARCH 27
Our annual Easter “Sonrise” Celebrations will take place at Thomas Road Baptist Church on Easter Sunday, March 27, in two identical 90-minute services at 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Renowned worship leader Charles Billingsley and many other special musical guests — including Shari Falwell, the Sounds of Liberty, the Old-Time Gospel Hour Singers and others — will present a truly exhilarating 60-minute Easter Music Spectacular prior to my special Resurrection Message in both of these services.
LADY FLAMES WIN FIRST-EVER NCAA TOURNAMENT GAME
The Lady Flames basketball team defeated fourth-seed Penn State (78-70) in first-round action at the Women’s NCAA Tournament. This morning, a large action photo of Liberty’s star center Katie Feenstra was splashed on the ESPN women’s basketball homepage. The team became just the fourth 13th seed ever to knock off a number four seed in the history of the tournament.
Liberty will now take on fifth-seed DePaul on Tuesday, March 22, at 7:00 p.m. (ET), at Comcast Center in College Park, Md. After last night’s regionally-televised game on ESPN, the team and coaches could be seen conducting their customary post-game prayer. This is arguably the most significant victory in the history of Liberty University athletics. Please join me in praying for this wonderful group of Christian girls and Head Coach Carey Green, as they continue on their quest of excellence this week.
CHURCHES HOSTING LIBERTY SCHOOL OF LAW REPRESENTATIVES
The inaugural class of Liberty University School of Law is finishing its first year of classes this spring. The first-year law students hale from 22 states and represent 49 undergraduate and graduate institutions. Eleven students hold advanced degrees through the doctoral level. Furthermore, the outlook for the second class of incoming first-year law students is very bright. The number of applications to the School of Law is more than double the number at this time last year. The caliber of the 2005-2006 applicants, mission-driven and competitive academically, is very high.
Dean Bruce W. Green of Liberty University School of Law announced that the school continues to offer full and partial tuition scholarships to qualified applicants for the 2005 entering class, crediting the success of the law school’s inaugural class and Liberty University’s commitment to reward meritorious applicants.
While the Liberty University School of Law arenas are those of law and politics, its aims are in line with those of Christian ministry. As the law school is planning its recruitment schedule for the upcoming year, its staff members welcome the opportunity to meet with church congregations across the country to share their vision for Christian legal education. If your church or organization would be interested in such a visit, please contact Michelle Rickert, assistant dean for admissions (434-592-5471 or mcrawfordrickert@liberty.edu ). Michelle will be pleased to arrange for a law school representative to speak to your church and explain how you might pray and support this historic effort.
