Bill Frist
05/02/2005
On Thursday we completed the budget, confirmed the President's two last cabinet appointments, and we now working on the Highway Bill. We are moving forward!
Last week in Tennessee we joined President Bush (on his 12th trip to Tennessee as President) for Earth Day in Knoxville and then on to Middle Tennessee.
I'm so proud of Karyn's commitment to so many issues to improve the lives of others. In Nashville, she did a tremendous job speaking on heart disease and strokes in women at the American Heart Association's "Go Red For Women" lunch. Last week, she co-chaired and spoke at the Senate Spouse's First Lady's Luncheon honoring Laura Bush in Washington.
This week I will head off to the Middle East to press for implementation of the roadmap for peace between Israelis and Palestinians. I will go to
Israel - to meet with PM Sharon
Ramallah - to meet with President Abbas/Abu Mazen
Jordan - to meet with King Abdallah and visit where Jordan is training Iraqi police
Lebanon - to meet with key opposition and government officials and to honor the late PM Hariri
Egypt - to meet with Pres. Mubarak
At each stop I will meet with scholars, journalists and others from the private sector to hear their views.
I will give you follow up on the trip.
