Timelines 1450 - Gutenburg invented the printing press in the 1450's, and the first book to ever be printed was the Bible. It was, however, in Latin rather than English. With the onset of the Reformation in the early 1500's, the first printings of the Bible in the English language were produced...illegally and at great personal risk of those involved. 1452-1519-During his lifetime, Leonardo da Vinci proposes that fossil marine shells have not been carried to their present locations by a deluge, nor created on the spot. 1455-Gutenberg invents the Western world's first working movable type.1455 AD: Gutenberg Invents the Printing Press; Books May Now be mass-Produced Instead of Individually Hand-Written. The First Book Ever Printed is Gutenberg's Bible in Latin. 1492-Columbus sails to America.
