Top Ten Democratic Disasters

With the elections now less than a month away, the democrats appear to be in a state of turmoil. The democrats don’t make a political move until after DNC Chief Terry McAuliffe has taken a poll to find out where the public wants them to stand on an issue. However, of late, those same polls are killing them and have them running around like a flock of beheaded poultry. In an off year election, what should be an easy victory for the dems, is turning out instead to be what may end up costing the dems their majority position in the Senate.

Over the last year, pretty much anything that could go wrong for the dems, has. Despite their efforts, President Bush is still holding around a seventy percent approval rating. Everything they have tried seems to have backfired in some way. In short, the outlook for the democrats in November just doesn’t look good.

Everyone seems to like top 10 lists, popularized by David Letterman, so I thought there should be a top 10 list of democratic disasters that have occurred in the last year or so, that will inevitably cost them votes next month. When I started thinking about this, it became increasingly difficult to narrow the field down to just 10 things. Their fiascos and faux pas’ have been many, and some very prominent blunders, which would normally be devastating, don’t even make the list. Things such as Terry McAuliffe’s Global Crossing connections or the Senate voting against drilling in ANWR. Hillary being booed off the stage by New York firemen and policemen. Babs Streisand making fictitious Shakespeare quotes. A member of the Kennedy family being charged with murder. California democrat Gary Condit being linked to the murder of Chandra Levy. In a normal year, these things would be campaign targets, but this year, they are little more than fodder in democratic implosion.

10). Making the list at number 10 is the Waco marauder, Janet Reno. She has taken a lesson from the Al Gore book of sore losers by refusing to believe American’s do not want her in office. She has displayed a prime example to American voters of democratic arrogance in taking the "I didn’t win so someone must have cheated" approach. American’s just don’t like a sore loser.

9). Bill Clinton. You would think he would rate higher on the list, but there’s just too much other stuff to keep old Bill at the back of the list. The majority of American’s, the ones who can think, have realized the condition of the economy is not the fault of George W. Bush, but falls more on the shoulders of Bill Clinton. Every corporate corruption scandal has shown to have begun while Bill was still in charge. Couple that with the news that the former President passed on three chances to have Osama bin Laden handed over to the U.S., and you have a lot of American voters realizing the true Clinton legacy.

8). Robert Byrd (D-WV). Labeled by Citizens Against Government Waste as this years "Porker of the Year" places Byrd on the list. And his ranting on the Senate floor has appeared sophomoric and in desperate need of acting lessons. American’s are growing weary of tax and spend democrats.

7). Al Gore. The last year has seen the former vice-president make a fool of himself on numerous occasions, but his latest tirade speaking out against ousting Saddam Hussein will be fresh on the minds of voters on November 5th. It also served to send the democratic leaders scurrying about like a covey of quail, not knowing which way to turn, and breaking old time loyalties.

6). Cynthia McKinney (D-GA). The mouth of the south fell out of favor with Georgians when she asked, "What did Bush know and when did he know it?" implying some great conspiracy within the White House and September 11th. We Americans may be gullible at times, but if you are going to make outrageous accusations like that, you had better be able to back it up with some proof. She thought it okay that she received campaign contributions from people with known ties to terrorist organizations while her opponent actually received contributions from "republicans!" McKinney is also using the "refuse to lose" Gore strategy by threatening to sue to have the republican crossover votes that ousted her in the primaries, nullified.

5). Robert Torricelli (D-NJ). This has been a really bad year for the Torch. How dare the pollsters of New Jersey hold him accountable for taking a few measly little payoffs? That’s the way democratic politics have gone on in New Jersey for years! Unfortunately, for the Torch, the voters of New Jersey are growing tired of it. On top of that, no one likes the kid who says, "If I can’t win, I don’t want to play anymore."

4). New Jersey Supreme Court. In connection with the Torricelli fiasco, the New Jersey Supreme Court has further alienated voters by saying, "We’re not going to let some stupid law stand in the way of what we want!" Americans are well aware that most laws are there for a reason. If citizens are obliged to obey the law, so must those who make those laws.

3). 9th Circuit Court. Americans were outraged by the June 26th decision by this court proclaiming the words "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance as unconstitutional. Many democratic American voters will be remembering that ruling when they cast their ballots.

2). Jim McDermott (D-WA) and David Bonior (D-MI). This tag team comes in at number 2 on the list. One hundred years ago, these two would have been convicted of treason and executed. I hope every American had the opportunity to see this duo standing on the streets of Baghdad proclaiming, "I think the president would mislead the American people in an effort to provoke a war." Reasonable Americans know why we attacked Afghanistan. Because the Taliban government was hosting and protecting al-Qaida. The situation is Iraq is no different. McDermott and Bonior are apologists for Iraq. Iraq is allied with al-Qaida. What does that make McDermott and Bonior to the American people? We will get the answer to that question in November.

1). Tom Daschle (D-SD). Topping the list of democratic disasters in none other than Senate Majority Leader Tommy Daschle, and his disastrous accomplishments are monumental. Daschle has successfully blocked three outstanding judicial nominees. He is currently sitting on 27 bills that have passed the House and are waiting debate on the Senate. Americans are tired of being held hostage in the name of furthering the democratic agenda. Most Americans were smarting enough to see through the accusations by little Tommy on the Senate floor when he went off on the president "politicizing" the Iraq issue. Has there ever been an issue that Puff Daschle did not politicize? What’s worse, Daschle was responding to remarks the President had made, not about Iraq, but rather about Homeland Defense. His display of righteous indignation did nothing to win him favor.

Many Americans still recall Daschle’s 1997 remarks that "Americans are not paying too much in taxes." Daschle further caused havoc for the democrats when he attempted to sneak through what would allow his state of South Dakota the opportunity to clear underbrush from it’s forest areas while holding all other states to stricter standards. My first inclination is to say, "Shame on you, Mr. Daschle, for being an underhanded and manipulative person", but on second thought, all I can say is, "thank you, Mr. Daschle, for showing Americans exactly how your party operates."

The way things have been going for the democrats, this list may change between now and November 5th. Mistakes seem to be following them around these days. According to virtually every poll taken, the democrats stand to loose a lot. One thing we can count on, if and when they do lose, the will demand recounts. They make false claims and accusations. They will scream that they were somehow mistreated. They will go down kicking and screaming. Perhaps this will be the year that America will begin down the road of recovery. Perhaps because of these and countless other democratic disasters, we will begin to restore what this great nation was founded on. One can only hope,…… and pray.
