An Open Letter to Governor Rick Perry

Dear Governor Rick Perry,

Congratulations on your recent election victory. May your new term be one of progress and prosperity for all Texans.

I am writing to implore you to put politics aside on an issue which will shape the future of  Texas and the nation. That is the issue of illegal immigration. You are now the only conservative governor on our 4,000 mile Mexican border. Texas makes up roughly half of that border and you, sir, are the lone governor with the perspicacity and tenacity to set aside political agendas and do what is right for the American people.

Your predecessor is in a most delicate situation. President Bush cannot put troops on our Mexican border without setting off a firestorm in the fly over states that do not see the seriousness of this problem. You can.

The new governor of New Mexico, Bill Richardson, will not stray far from the liberal agenda. He will continue to dutifully spend tax dollars by having our school buses meet Hispanic children at the border each morning and bus them into our already overcrowded schools.

The new Arizona governor, Janet Napolitano, is known to be soft of illegal immigration. The problem has become so insidious in her state, citizens have resorted to vigilante patrols of the borders. Should that be the resolve or the responsibility of the citizens of Texas? Because of her known softness on illegal immigration, one can hardly expect Governor Napolitano to change course now.

When asked during her campaign what she would do about illegal immigration, Ms. Napolitano sidestepped the question and recommended that Congress reimburse border communities for the economic impact of illegal immigration, especially in the areas of medical care and law enforcement. In other words, the standard liberal answer of throwing money at the problem, rather than actually addressing the problem. Of course, we all know what to expect from Gov. Davis of California.

That leaves you, Governor Perry. You are currently the American citizens’ loan best hope for actually making positive steps in securing our border. You have the power to invoke and encourage common sense legislation, void of political correctness that is detrimental to society overall.

The new House Minority Leader, Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has endorsed a new pilot program which would recognize the Matricula Consular (identification cards issued by the Mexican Consulate) as a legitimate form of identification for visitors. This is exactly the kind of mindless leadership that has destroyed our national security, and it is up to you sir, to protect the citizens of Texans, even of America itself, from this kind of idiocy.

Over 1,000,000 illegal immigrants enter America each year, many of those, across the 2,000 mile Texas - Mexico border. Our jails are over crowded. Our schools are over crowded. Our hospitals are over worked and losing money by the tens of millions. All of these problems and many others are compounded by illegal immigration, and paid for on the backs of Texas and American taxpayers. Just the cost of detention of illegal aliens.

Do not fall into the political trap of going soft on illegal immigration. The voters will not stand for it. The American voters made a statement last November. We want leaders who will take tough stances on important issues, and there is no issue more important to Americans today than protecting our homeland. The American citizens are begging for leaders to make necessary decisions. They may be unpopular to some, but the vast majority of citizens will rally behind a leader who will show the tenacity to lead America the right direction. Let us begin right here in Texas. Let Texas stand tall as the compass of America. Secure our borders once and for all and put a stop to legislation that is detrimental to the overall good of the state and the nation.

Respectfully,

Monty Rainey, President – Junto Society
Hays County, Texas
Pct. 223 Republican Chairman
