Freedom
Of Speech? Or Hanoi Jane Reincarnated?

2/27/2003
The
following quotes were provided by Larry Elder in his article "Hollywood 'experts' speak out"
posted today on Townhall.com.
The words in italics are mine.
In Hollywood, apparently, celebrity equals expertise.
Edward Norton: "Almost everyone in Germany and France is in sync with the governments. I almost forgot what it's like to be proud of my government. . . . It's dismaying to see the unilateralism the government is doing. There aren't enough rational steps."
Am
I supposed to recognize this name? I don't. Maybe
someone can provide me with a mug shot, then I may recognize who he
pretends to be? Perhaps permanent residency in Germany or France
is right up his alley, I sure won't miss him.
Robert Altman: "The present government in America I just find disgusting, the idea that George Bush could run a baseball team successfully -- he can't even speak! I just find him an embarrassment. I was over here when the election was on and I couldn't believe it -- and I'm 76 years old. Then when the Supreme Court came in and turned out to be a totally political animal, the last shred of any
naiveté that was left in me has gone. When I see an American flag flying, it's a joke."
Robert
who? Can someone tell me who this person is and why I should
know him, let alone care what he thinks of our President? If
he has no respect for our flag, maybe one with a red Crescent and a
Star would be more to his liking?
Mike Farrell: "It is inappropriate for the administration to trump up a case in which we are ballyhooed into war." Yet when Clinton took non-U.N.-approved military action in Kosovo, Farrell said, "I think it's appropriate for the international community in situations like this to intervene. I am in favor of an intervention."
I
never liked MASH when it was a regular program I like it even less now
as old reruns. Has he done anything recently other than criticize
our President?
Jessica Lange: "I hate George W. Bush" and "I despise" his administration.
Jessica
who? Anyone remember what movies she starred in? I
don't.
Danny Glover: "Yes, he's racist. We all knew that but the world is only finding it out now. As Texas's governor, Bush led a penitentiary system that executed more people than all the other U.S. states together. And most of the people who died from (the) death penalty were Afro-Americans or Hispanics. . . . (Bush) promoted a conservative program, designed to eliminate everything Americans had accomplished so far in matters of race and equality." (For the record, during George Bush's tenure as governor of Texas, the state executed 152 people, over half were white, about one-third black, with the remainder Hispanic or "other.")
There
was a time when I enjoyed watching Danny Glover in his movies.
That time has now cease to exist. I turn him off when he is
advertising for MCI and would not think of joining them as long as he
is their spokesperson. That is if I ever thought of paying
for something I may not use.
Janeane Garofalo: "The world would be better off with multiple superpowers." When asked if that means our enemies should be more powerful Garofalo said, "Sure . . . when Communist U.S.S.R. was a superpower, the world was better off. . . . The right-wing media is trying to marginalize the peace movement."
This
one I know, only because Hannity and Colmes had
Brian Kilmeade on with a clip of this totally out of control female
who thinks someone should listen to her because she
......? Boy I am bad, I don't even know why I should know
her. One thing is certain she isn't very well informed and
obviously flunked history.
Larry Hagman: "A sad figure (Bush): not too well educated, who doesn't get out of America much. He's leading the country towards fascism."
Is
this the guy that played with a Jeannie? Can't remember
but I think this was a show my kids used to like. Talk about
living in a fairy tale world. How many MBA's did you earn Mr.
Hagman?
Martin Sheen: "I think he'd (George W. Bush) like to hand his father Saddam Hussein's head and win his approval for what happened after the Gulf War. That's my own personal opinion, I don't know if that's true. I hope it's not, but I suspect it is."
Ah
Martin, he plays a president. Think maybe it went to his
head? I wrote him an email. Never got a reply but
then I am sure I am not important enough for him to care about.
Just part of the majority that supports our 'real'
president.
Although I know people that love West Wing, I have never watched
the program and one thing is certain now, I never will. In fact
I think I will organize a boycott against it's sponsors.
Ed Asner: "I think that the idea of Iraq being a nuclear threat is poppycock, and if they are a nuclear threat then they'd have to borrow atomic bombs from Israel."
This
name rings a bell, but for some reason I can't put a face with the
name. I guess it just isn't that important. I
stopped wooing over stars when Elvis was 20. I think I was 10 at
the time.
Ed Harris: "Being a man, I've got to say that we've got this guy in the White House who thinks he is a man, you know, who projects himself as a man and because he has a certain masculinity, and he's a good old boy, and he used to drink, and he knows how to shoot a gun and how to drive a pickup truck, etcetera like that. That's not the definition of a man, God dammit!"
Well
nice talk Mr Harris, whoever you are. Probably someone who
thinks girls and boys are the same, eh? If so I suggest
you get a clue. If I wanted to date someone that acts like a
woman.... well you get the point.
Dustin Hoffman: "I believe -- though I may be wrong, because I'm no expert -- that this war is about what most wars are about: hegemony, money, power and oil."
Ah
yes one of the stars of the very last movie I (rather my boyfriend)
paid to view. What a piece of garbage. I will never
forget how angry I was at my date for taking me to that piece of
crap. Midnight Cowboy.... well perhaps Dustin should stick
to playing a weirdo instead of opening his mouth and proving to
everyone that is what he is.
Sean Penn: "If there is a war or continued sanctions against Iraq, the blood of Americans and Iraqis alike will be on our hands."
Who
does this one pretend to be? I keep hearing the name, think I
saw a movie listing the other night that had him starring, decided to
watch the news instead. Why support these people with our
money and our loyalty, they sure don't support our country?
David Clennon (of the television show "The Agency") appeared on the Sean Hannity radio show and likened America's current pro-war atmosphere to that of Nazi Germany. Was he comparing Bush to Adolf Hitler? No. Clennon said, "Hitler is smarter than Bush."
I
watch the Agency once in awhile, but I haven't a clue who this person
portrays. I guess they just don't matter that much they are all
a bunch of big kids pretending to be something they aren't man enough
to be in real life.
George Clooney: "You can't beat your enemy anymore through wars; instead you create an entire generation of people revenge-seeking. . . . These days it only matters who's in charge. Right now that's us -- for a while at least. Our opponents are going to resort to car bombs and suicide attacks because they have no other way to win. . . . We can't beat anyone anymore."
Hey
Clooney, perhaps we should just drop the "c" from your name,
I think it would come closer to describing you. I heard
surnames were developed as part of what the ancestors did for a
living. Can someone tell me what a "Clooney" does for
a living or is this a quick name change to fix a problem ?
"Looney" does make a lot of sense. I did like some of your
movies (but I waited until they came free on my TV), but it had more
to do with your looks than anything, and here recently I noticed that
Fox News reporter Todd ?? who is currently on the front lines is not
only better looking but obviously more of a man. By the way I had to
ask my daughter who you were, because despite watching a movie with
you in it, with her, I didn't have a clue. That's right I don't
watch ER either.
Spike Lee: "Too many people are being bowled over by Bush and Tony Blair in Britain. It's ludicrous to expect the whole world to follow what they want. . . America doesn't have the moral right to tell other people what to do. To say the whole world has to fall into line is you-know-what. I hope more people will rise up."
Well
Spike as I sit here typing I cannot put a face with the name but I am
sure I should know who you are. I guess it just never has
been that important to me to know who is singing, dancing and
pretending. As far as the situation with the protests
against Bush and Blair, last I heard there were only a million or so
total turnout for this anti- American extravaganza put on by the World
Communist Party. There was a time consorting with known
communist could get you an invite to leave and leave now.
Lets take a closer look at this. Latest census reports slightly
over six billion people world wide. That means even if the numbers
totaled the millions touted by the press, it would still only
represent a drop in the total bucket. Not enough to make a
good rain storm. As far as I am concerned you would all make a
fine country someplace on the moon. I for one would not miss any
of you for any reason, and surely not for protesting a war and
demoralizing our troops. Who do you think you are?
If it were up to me, and you can be thankful it is not, you would have
made your last dime in the entertainment business because I certainly
would not support any of you or those who sponsor whatever you
do.
To quote Oscar Wilde, "By giving us the opinions of the uneducated, (journalism) keeps us in touch with the ignorance of the community."
This
quote was also provided by Larry Elder. I submit it applies.
Aren't you folks thankful that someone died to protect your rights
to be so stupid? Frankly, I am not, my husband died in Vietnam, and my
son fought in Iraq the last time around. He is seriously angry
they didn't finish the job then. I would be much happier if you
just left this country and didn't look back.
