Why
I Am No Longer A Democrat

Recently
I received an email from a young man who is a photo editor by
profession and a wantabee journalist. Like me he
has a website, and he voices his opinion. His email was short
and to the point, and his comment was that I was an idiot and didn't
have a point. That may be true, but this is America and we
all have a right to say what we think, even him. The reason I am
telling you this, is it has to do with the reason I am no longer a
Democrat. It is a matter of respect, dignity, and the ability to
take personal responsibility for who you are, and what you say and do
to others.
When
I was raised up, there was no doubt in my mind that showing respect
for others was a requirement, not a choice. My mother had her
methods of making sure that was well understood. Now days
respect is as passé as morality. Those who debate from the
left these days don't seem to care about fair play, it is cut throat
politics all the way. And diminishing everyone who disagrees
with them seems to be the goal. Vulgarity and lies seems to be the
method.
My
mother and father (I think) were both staunch Democrats. My
mother I am sure was, my father rarely said much about it but
associated with the politicians my mother was always involved
with. He was a teamster so I am pretty sure he voted on the
left. The point here is I did as well thinking that they knew
what they were doing, and I did so for years even though there were
times when I liked the other guys message more, because it fit who I
was better.
For
instance in 1992, I voted for Clinton but deep down I was hoping Bush
won anyway. The reason for this was the effort Reagan and
Bush had put into getting people off welfare, and ending the seemingly
endless deaths of unborn children through abortion. At one point
I actually believed that if Bush were re-elected abortion law would
finally be changed.
Most
of the young people that hang out with my sons, and daughter are
Republicans. The reason for this is they want their wives to
stay home if they want to do so, and they want their family cared for
by their mothers. This is a choice they have when they are
not giving up most of their earnings to taxes. Republicans tend
to lower taxes so people have more money in their pockets to
spend.
In
1992, my youngest son graduated from High School, he wanted to go to
college. We talked about it and I was making enough where I
could have helped him but something came up that prevented
it. My taxes were increased, and as a result my income was
lowered. Not only was my income tax increased, but so were my
social security taxes.
The
real kicker was I made too much money to get him assistance despite
the fact I was a single mom. So he worked it out on his
own, just as his older brother did, and he got some higher education, now he is doing fine.
The
reason I am no longer a Democrat is because I remember the feeling of
failing my children when the Democrats took money from me to give to
others who were not working, and their children were given free
educations while mine had to work to help pay for his. I remember how
angry I was when they gave us the notice that our taxes would be going
up, and they ate up my entire pay raises that year. If they
had not gotten into my paycheck the way they did in 1993, I would have
been able to put my sons through school.
You
see not everyone that is being taxed is rich, some of us are barely
making ends meet. I bought my clothing in a second hand store at
a greatly reduced price so I could work. I bought my kids new
clothing so they could fit in.
But
in the end my children are all working, their families are happy, they
are all buying their own homes, and those who were getting a free ride,
well they are still getting a free ride in many cases.
So
in the future I will fight against Democrats with everything left in
me, and my kids and their kids will be raised to vote for
Republicans. Even if we have to home school the
babies.
As
I watch the degrading way the Democrats running for office are
fighting against Bush now, and even each other. I know I have
made the right decision. I am taking the high road.
Hopefully you and everyone else will as well.
We
do no one a favor by making them dependent. And that is where
Democrats want you to be, dependent on them and a big government that
will spend your money as they see fit.
